Swarm is also developing the SRC-20 protocol, which will define a common set of rules that a security token must follow, and will give users the ability to create DApps that follow these accepted properties. The platform has several parallel layers that are intended to provide decentralized storage, messaging, streaming, and content delivery services. The network is powered by the NEM-based XPX token. ProximaX intends on using a hybrid consensus mechanism for validating value transfers on these layers. Consensus will be driven with a combination of Proof-of-Importance (PoI), Proof-of-Storage (PoSt), and Proof-of-Bandwidth (PoB).

IPFS can be used to link blockchain transactions This effectively timestamps and secures the content, without having to put the data on the chain itself. Filecoin, an IPFS-based decentralized storage cloud, is closely related with the IPFS protocol, and provides the incentive system.
