What problem does this service solve?

MOL aims to enable fast, and fee-less, micropayment transactions.Ethereum is a general purpose blockchain with a smart contract functionality that can be implemented to automatically execute certain functions. The Ethereum blockchain and its native currency Ether, are a central components of the entire blockchain ecosystem. A large number of other tokens are built upon its platform, and Ether currently represents around 15% of the total market capitalization of all digital currencies.Nimiq's goal is to provide an easy to use censorship resistant payment network.

Company Description

MOL is developing a blockchain platform for micro-payments. MOL's architecture will be based on the block lattice design used in Nano, and will have a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (dPoS) consensus mechanism that incorporates elements from Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAG). The MOL network is currently powered by the Ethereum-based MOL token.

Ethereum is a blockchain-based computing platform and operating system whose core innovation is enabling smart contracts. Ethereum's smart contract functionality, and versatile scripting language, have made it the most popular network for creating decentralized applications. What makes Ethereum different from Bitcoin is that its primary purpose is to serve as a general purpose blockchain for creating DApps, and not as a payment network. Ethereum was created by Vitalik Buterin. It was launched in July 2015 and has become one of the most important blockchain platforms in the industry. Ether is the native currency of the Ethereum blockchain and can can be used as a transfer of value, as well as a form of compensation for mining. The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) executes scripts using a network of public nodes. "Gas" is used as an internal transaction pricing mechanism that decides how resources are used on the network.

Nimiq is a censorship-resistant cryptocurrency that is designed to run in the user's browser. Nimiq's focus is on usability and the browser first approach allows coin holders to participate in their payment network more easily. Nimiq uses a Merkle-based accumulator to store accounts and balances, and has a Non-Interactive Proofs of Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism.
