Blockchain Benchmark Index Methodology

The Blockchain Benchmark Index is a float adjusted, capitalization-weighted index that measures the value of 15 of the leading cryptocurrencies. The Blockchain Benchmark Index price provides a quick look at the blockchain market, and is designed to be a tool for investors, developers, and professionals to keep track of the state of blockchain technology.

The currencies that comprise the Benchmark Index represent the majority of the value circulating in decentralized networks. Blockchain-based digital assets are fundamentally different from traditional asset classes because they are closely associated with the transactional activity within their respective networks. For this reason, the market capitalizations in the BCA Index are adjusted by a float factor to more accurately reflect the network dynamics of each project.

The Adjusted Market Cap is calculated by multiplying the market cap of each constituent currency by a float-factor. The float-factors are calculated based on the proportion of tokens/coins that are in circulation, as well as other factors that influence the unique tokenomics of each asset.
